Practicing Healthy Self-care
Struggling with lifestyle habits and self-care? People are starting to realize more and more how much of an impact their habits and lifestyle choices have on their overall health and well-being on all levels: emotional, spiritual, relational, mental, and physical.
We're starting to take a closer look at the choices we are making in life and seeing that there is so much that we have control over that will help us thrive. Our busy schedules often mean we don't make our health and well-being a priority until something happens to cause a physical, mental, or emotional set-back of some kind. However, we could really benefit from making our lifestyle habits and practice of self-care a top priority in order to bring our very best selves into every situation, interaction, and experience we encounter. We have so much more control over how we feel than we've grown to believe we have! |
There is sometimes a stigma attached to self-care, with some people labeling it as selfish or self-indulgent. This is the farthest thing from the truth!
It is an essential aspect of creating our best life so that we can be even more supportive and compassionate with others. Self-care simply means taking action on an ongoing basis to support your well-being. It means having the self-awareness to know what your body, mind, and spirit need in order to reach your full potential. |
Some of the downfalls of neglecting our self-care and well-being include:
- Physical symptoms that can range from aches and pains, trouble sleeping and weight gain to serious diseases, like cancer and diabetes
- Emotional symptoms, including detachment, sadness, anger, and resentment
- Psychological symptoms that include depression and anxiety
