Navigating Thinking Traps

Thoughts are so powerful! They determine how we view, interpret, and respond to everything we encounter. Our minds are constantly narrating - commenting, judging, and criticizing - telling us stories about what is going on around us. And everything is filtered through our past

Your mind has a natural tendency to compare you with others and point out all the ways in which they are better.  It makes assumptions about how others are thinking or feeling about you that are more often than not, inaccurate. It takes other peoples' actions personally when they likely have nothing to do with you.

It is in the background, pointing out your flaws or ways you are falling short. It focuses in on the "bad" and tends to filter out or downplay all the good in your life. It is constantly telling you stories that cause you to worry or dwell on things that are beyond your control. The list of ways in which your mind, and thoughts, cause you to suffer could go on and on.
Navigating Thinking Traps and Limiting Thinking
​Did you know that research shows that we think 60-80 THOUSAND thoughts per day?  They are so habitual that we tend to accept them as truth, as "who we are".  But that is just not accurate.  For that reason, it is important to understand our thinking so that it no longer negatively affects our lives and holds us back from our true potential. ​

Here are a few ways to deal with thoughts in a constructive way:
  • Practice mindfulness​ and radical acceptance
  • Commit to understanding the workings of your mind and see thoughts for what they really are - experiences passing through
  • Develop a deeper level of self-awareness
  • Practice noticing the deeper quiet that lies beneath the unending stream of thoughts​

Dealing with difficult thoughts
