Some of the negative consequences of perfectionism include:
Low self-esteem. Someone struggling with perfectionism never feels "good enough'' about their personal performance, so feelings of being a "failure" or a "loser" can contribute to low self-confidence and self-worth
Guilt: Because perfectionism causes a person to never feel good about the way they are handling life, they may experience a sense of guilt or shame. Pessimism. Since perfectionism has convinced you that it will be extremely difficult to achieve an "ideal goal", you may easily become discouraged and give up easily Lack of motivation. Believing that the goal of "change'' will never be able to be ideally or perfectly achieved can often cause a lack of motivation to attempt change in the first place, or to continue on if change has already begun. |
