Overview of Fusion and Defusion
Being “fused” with our thinking means that we get hooked by and completely taken over by it. We accept what we hear in our head as truth.
Bring to mind the demonstration, “Hands as Thoughts”, remembering how it felt to have more and more of your vision obstructed by your hands. That is what happens when you are completely identified with your thinking (fused with it).
We pretty much leave the present moment and get caught up in living in our head, listening to and believing the stories our mind is telling us.
We get stuck in the world of language – beliefs, assumptions, thoughts, attitudes, memories, images, words, gestures, fantasies – so caught up with all those words and pictures running around our heads that we lose contact with the world of direct experience (through our senses).
